Custom Portrait or Pet Portrait Commission Information
Having an artist create a custom painted or hand drawn portrait of your loved one or pet can be a confusing and daunting task - one that I don't take lightly. I have many returning customers because of the quality of my work and the easy process of the service I provide. This page details the commission process and you can request a quote for your portrait project.
Step 1
Photographs
After the initial inquiry about a custom portrait or pet portrait commission, I will ask for photographs to be sent via email or Dropbox. If you are local to me, I like to meet my subjects and can take more photographs for reference. Photographs must be clear, have good lighting and close enough to the subject to see the details. The more photographs the better. I often work from multiple photographs with one as the main reference for the pose but use details from other photographs when needed.
Step 2
Scheduling and Deposit
Once I have reviewed all photographs and details on the project and we decide on size and medium to use (graphite, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic). Request a quote. I can give an estimate on cost and completion dates. If you have a special date or event in mind, please disclose that in the initial contact. A 50% deposit is required for me to add this project to the schedule.
Step 3
Mockups and Painting/Drawing
Mockups are either created on the computer or sketched on paper and shown to the client for approval of the design and composition of the portrait painting or drawing. Upon approval the painting or drawing process will begin. Process photos can be provided by email or text to keep the client informed about the progress. Clients can request tweaks to the drawing or painting in these steps but a new design cannot be requested without additional fees.
Step 4
Framing
All commissioned artwork is delivered in a black wood frame with white mat board to protect the work during delivery. I fully expect customers will want to change the frame and mat to suit their taste and decor. I do work with a few frame shops and can provide a higher quality framing experience upon request.
Step 5
Final Payment and Shipping
Final payment must be made prior to shipping the artwork. All artwork is flat packed with care to ensure it arrives undamaged. Shipping is typically provided by US Postal Service Priority Mail service but FedEx or UPS can be used by request. Tracking numbers are provided to every client. If you are local to the studio I will personally deliver the finished artwork.
