About
I am a self taught artist drawing inspiration from wildlife, nature, and the the art of the portrait. Graphite, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic and/or egg tempera are the mediums of my choice in which I create compelling portraits that capture the essence and personality of my subjects.
From my home studio in Indian Trail, NC, I create portraits (people, K9 and animal) for a wide range of clients and collectors. The portraits I paint for you are a lasting representation you can enjoy forever.
On my studio floor amidst drawings and squeaky balls you can find my loyal companion Gage, a White German Shepherd. When not involved in studio projects, I consult as a software craftsman, enjoy photography, run, and study classical guitar. I have been proudly married to my lovely wife of over 25 years and together we have a son who also resides in the Charlotte area.
The early years
I was a military brat, spending a lot of my early and later childhood moving. Most of my early years were spent in Fayetteville, NC because my Father was stationed at Fort Bragg. Television was limited so a lot of my time indoors was spent drawing and reading. Outdoor time we explored the swamps and tank trails around Ft. Bragg. I was about nine or ten years old when I first tried drawing characters from comic books - I’m not sure that I ever read them but enjoyed the challenge which sparked a life long love of drawing and painting.
In 1984 we moved to Hershey, PA. I was not happy about leaving my friends behind so I sought solace in drawing. The high school art teacher, Brad Stroman saw my work and encouraged me to take his class as well as join the Art Honor Society. I thank Brad and the time in his classes for helping shape my future as an artist. MY most memorable experience was a society trip to Brandywine in Chads Ford, PA to see the work and studio of NC Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth.
Gage
My wife and I are dog people and German Shepherds will always be members of our home and my studio. Gage is our white German Shepherd. We added him to our family in November of 2016, about six months after we lost our twelve year old black and tan GSD, Maya to DM.
A well trained, quirky and fiercely loyal companion, Gage is a joy to have with me all of the time and sometimes joins me on conference calls.
